September 21, 2009 - Education Minister to Visit History Centre
On Monday, September 21, from 2 to 2:45 p.m., Education Minister Dave Hancock will be visiting the History Centre at Queen Alexandra School (7730 - 106 Street NW). Mr. Hancock will observe Grade 5 students from Mount Pleasant School engaged in activities from the Grade 5 Social Studies curriculum. Read more.

September 17, 2009 - Ottewell School receives $5,000 grant from BP Canada's A+ for Energy program
On Friday, September 18, at 9:30 a.m., Ottewell School will receive a cheque from BP Canada's A+ for Energy education program recognizing teacher Colbie Bell's innovation and excellence in teaching energy and energy conservation. Read more.

September 11, 2009 - Sector Planning Review
Edmonton Public Schools will begin a Sector Planning Review for the Greater Hardisty and City Centre Areas in mid-September. Sector planning is a review of all school space within Edmonton Public Schools, to address areas of low enrolment, low class size, and a surplus of school space. A public engagement process will be conducted as part of this project. Read more.

Approximately 79,000 Edmonton Public Schools students return to classes on Wednesday, September 2. Read more.

September 1, 2009 - First Riders
On Tuesday, August 25, Edmonton Public Schools, Edmonton Catholic Schools and Conseil scolaire Centre-Nord, along with five school bus contractors and Edmonton Transit (ETS) hosted the 4th annual First Riders event. First Riders is an educational program that provides new school bus riders and their parents an opportunity to learn about safe school bus practices and the important role parent's play, not only on the bus, but on the trip to and from the bus stop each day.

The young first riders and their parents watched a safety video, learned where to stand while waiting for the bus, how to load and unload the bus and recognize danger zones. They also took a short ride on a school bus to practice their new skills. Click here to view pictures of the event.

August 19, 2009 - Update on the Bennett Centre
August 20 marks the one year anniversary of the fire that destroyed the Annex at the Bennett Centre. Temporarily moved to Ritchie School, the staff have now returned to the historic building and are able to offer some limited programming to students from that site. Read more.

August 18, 2009 - Influenza A (H1N1) Information
As we near the end of summer holidays, the Board of Trustees and the Superintendent hope all Edmontonians are enjoying a relaxing break. Despite the break, the H1N1 Influenza A virus has not slowed and continues to spread worldwide, especially in the southern hemisphere. Leading health experts, including the Province's chief medical officer of health, Dr. Andre Corriveau, agree that the number of people who contract the H1N1 virus could increase as people end their summer holidays and return to school and work. July 20, 2009 - District students win big at Cappies Awards Gala
Victoria School's charming My Fair Lady was named top musical while Strathcona School lay claim to the Top critics team award at the second annual Cappies Awards Gala held at the end of June at the Citadel's Shoctor Theatre. Read more.

July 9, 2009 - Fire at Ross Sheppard School
A fire at Ross Sheppard School yesterday afternoon caused approximately $250,000 in damages. Read more.
