EDMONTON PUBLIC SCHOOL BOARD APPROVES NEW CONTRACT WITH TEACHERS

The Edmonton Public Schools Board of Trustees is pleased to announce the ratification a new contract for the District's teachers and principals.

Trustees voted to approve the contract at last night's regularly scheduled board meeting, while teachers and principals approved the deal in a vote taken January 14.

The agreement runs from September 1, 2007 to August 31, 2012. It includes a three per cent salary increase for teachers effective September 1, 2007. On September 1 of each subsequent year of the agreement, teachers will receive salary increases in line with the Average Weekly Wage Earnings Index. These increases align with the Provincial Pension Plan Memorandum of Agreement reached between the Alberta Teachers' Association and the Government of Alberta.

Edmonton Public Schools is the second largest school district in Alberta with 197 schools, more than 79,000 students and more than 10,000 employees.
