A fire at Ross Sheppard School yesterday afternoon caused approximately $250,000 in damages.

Although the fire was contained to a boy's washroom, there was considerable soot damage throughout the three floors of the northwest wing of the school.

The District has started remediation work and will be working over the summer to repair and clean the damaged section of the school. These repairs are expected to be completed before school starts in September.

Six hundred students are currently attending summer school at Ross Sheppard until the end of next week. Except for some minor inconveniences, the fire did not impact these classes.

The fire is believed to be arson and continues to be under investigation.

Ross Sheppard School was opened in 1958 and accommodates over 2,100 students.
