News items: Turning the page on READ IN Week 2014

This year we cracked open our favourite books to celebrate 25 years of READ IN Week.

Appreciating Our Volunteers

Thanks to everyone who took the time out of their hectic schedules to visit our schools and share their love of reading with students! Our schools welcomed many guests during READ IN Week 2014, including:

  • authors
  • athletes
  • politicians
  • media personalities
  • Trustees
  • Assistant Superintendents
  • staff and students from other schools
  • retired teachers and principals
  • members of the Royal Canadian Navy and Edmonton Police Service
  • Native Counselling Services of Alberta
  • moms, dads, grandparents and other family members
  • community members

Books, Laptops and Languages, Oh My!

For us, this was a READ IN Week of variety. Guests shared picture books, novels, poems, essays and memoirs with our students. While most volunteers read in English, some also read in French, German, Braille and other languages. A few teachers even used Google Hangout to read to classes across the city!

With new technology and a growing number of volunteers, READ IN Week gets more creative every year. Thanks to the schools and volunteers for helping us escape to new worlds for the 25th anniversary of READ IN Week. We look forward to more great photos and stories in 2015.

So until we reach next year’s chapter…keep reading!
