Minchau School flood and relocation of students

Thu, 4 Jan, 2018

News item: Minchau School Flood

Over the winter break, Minchau School experienced significant flooding due to the cold weather. Clean-up and repairs are underway, but the school will not be ready for students to return to on January 8, 2018.

MARCH 15 UPDATE: Students and staff will be able to return to Minchau School on April 3, after Spring Break. Please make sure your child(ren) bring home their personal belongings over the break (coats, shoes, snow pants, etc.). If you have any questions, please contact the school at 780-461-0616.

JANUARY 8 UPDATE: More information about transportation for Kindergarten students, student items and supplies, and school tours has been added.

TEMPORARY RELOCATION AT JAN REIMER SCHOOL

Making sure students have safe and welcoming spaces to learn is our top priority. There are too many repairs needed at Minchau School, and it wouldn’t be safe to have students in the school while this work is going on.

Students will be temporarily relocated to Jan Reimer School (360 Orchards Boulevard SW), located in The Orchards community.

Because Jan Reimer School was hosting Shauna May Seneca staff and students during the first half of the school year, it is already set up to quickly accommodate students from Minchau. During the time students and staff are hosted at Jan Reimer School, they will have their own space for classes, just like they would at their school.

TRANSPORTATION TO JAN REIMER SCHOOL

Transportation for Minchau students to Jan Reimer School will be provided while students are temporarily relocated.

STUDENTS WHO NORMALLY TAKE THE BUS TO MINCHAU SCHOOL

Students who normally take the bus will follow the same schedules, and the bus will be re-routed to Jan Reimer School instead of Minchau School.

  • Pick up times and locations will remain the same in the morning.
  • Drop off locations will remain the same after school, but students may arrive 10-15 minutes later due to travel times.

STUDENTS WHO NORMALLY WALK TO MINCHAU SCHOOL

STUDENT ITEMS AND SCHOOL SUPPLIES

Student items, such as indoor shoes and school supplies, were packed up with the other classroom items and will be at Jan Reimer School on Monday.

You do not need to buy new indoor shoes and school supplies for your child. Items left on boot racks will be available in the Jan Reimer School office for students to pick up.
