:: Getting Involved!
By encouraging and supporting your child, you show that you place a high priority on his/her learning, social behaviour, participation, and progress at school. You can support your child by:
- attending special events
- reading together
- knowing school rules, program expectations, discipline policies, and grading practices
- reading newsletters and teachers notes
- participating in parent-student-teacher conferences
- talking with your child about school, interests, and friends vencouraging, supporting, and modeling positive attitudes about education
School Councils
School Councils play an important role by providing advice and assistance to school principals and trustees regarding educational issues. Involvement on these councils includes:
- focusing on educational matters
- providing input on various matters such as program planning, school budgets, and school operations
- serving as a liaison between parents, the school, and community groups
- locating resources such as speakers and volunteers
- gathering information and sharing experiences
- supporting the goals and objectives of the school

Volunteering
Countless local, provincial, national, and global organizations were built on the strength of volunteer efforts. Imagine what volunteers can do for your child's school! There are so many ways you can make a difference.
Educational Partnerships
The Educational Partnership Program enables a variety of institutions, community organizations, and businesses to be involved with schools. Encourage the company you work for to get involved! Activities can include:
- helping students understand the realities of the working world through educational partnerships
- sharing time, talent, and expertise with students
- participating in job shadowing projects
- sharing professional and personal experiences with students (i.e. career days)
- becoming a volunteer at a school
District Involvement
Information gathered from parents and members of the community assists the board in making decisions that ensure students are provided with the best possible educational opportunities. Involvement at the district level can include:
- participate in the Parents as Partners program
- attending public board meetings
- filling in public opinion polls and surveys
- contacting trustees with ideas and concerns
- understanding board policies and reading board minutes
- keeping up to date on local issues such as elections, government policies, and teacher bargaining
