Lice

Outbreaks of head lice are an occasional problem in schools. You will be notified if your child has lice, or may have been exposed to lice, by a letter sent home with your child or a message on SchoolZone.

Treatment

Commercial Treatment

The recommended treatment for lice is a medicated shampoo, such as "NIX®" or "Kwellada-P™". Follow the directions for use on the bottle, then remove the nits (lice eggs) by hand.

Alternative Treatment

If you prefer not to use a commercial treatment, you can mix equal amounts of olive oil and vinegar and work the mixture into your child's hair, leave in for about 30 to 60 minutes, wash hair with regular shampoo and use a nit comb to remove nits. The vinegar will help release the nits from the hair shaft.
