REGISTRATION

STUDENTS WHO ARE NEW TO THE DISTRICT (INCLUDING KINDERGARTEN)

Schools start accepting registration forms for students who are new to the District on February 1, 2017.

If your child is new to Edmonton Public Schools, you'll need to complete a Student Registration form. Because the 11 new schools are still under construction, you can submit a completed registration form at any District school‌. When registering at a school:

The school will make sure your registration package is delivered to the principal of Dr. Lila Fahlman School. Learn more about registering a new student and examples of accepted documentation

STUDENTS WHO CURRENTLY ATTEND A DISTRICT SCHOOL

If your child is currently attending a District school and would like to attend one of the new schools for the 2017-2018 school year, you can select the school by signing in to your parent SchoolZone account to pre-enrol between March 13 and April 18. Learn more about pre-enrolling current District students in SchoolZone.

RANDOM SELECTION

Students living in the attendance area are guaranteed entrance to the school. Students living outside the attendance area may be accepted if there is still room after students in the attendance area have been accommodated.

If the number of students who want to attend the school exceeds the available space, applicants from outside the school’s designated attendance area (but within the City of Edmonton) are chosen by random selection. Learn more about random selection.

ATTENDANCE AREA BOUNDARY

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and ideas about attendance areas for Dr. Lila Fahlman School. We heard from some of you at our information meetings and from many more of you through our online survey. Please know your feedback helped us make our decisions.

APPROVED ATTENDANCE AREA

The Superintendent has approved the following attendance area for Dr. Lila Fahlman School:

  • The following neighbourhoods are designated to Dr. Lila Fahlman School: Allard, Callaghan and Cavanagh.
  • Students in the primary attendance area for Dr. Lila Fahlman School who are currently attending Duggan School can stay there, if they wish, but they will no longer be eligible for yellow bus service.
  • Dr. Lila Fahlman School will have an open attendance boundary, which means any student may pre-enrol at the school. A random selection process will be used if there is not enough space to accommodate all interested students.
  • Yellow bus service will be provided within the Callaghan neighbourhood for eligible elementary students. Yellow bus service will be provided within the Cavanagh neighbourhood for eligible elementary and junior high students.

For questions about yellow bus service, contact Student Transportation at 780-429-8585.

HOW WE MADE THE DECISION

We chose an attendance area that would allow as many students as possible to attend a school close to home, and we did our best to keep families and communities together. We were also careful to make sure the school doesn’t fill up too quickly while communities are still growing. This is a lesson we learned from opening other schools in new areas.

MANAGING GROWTH

Every student who pre-enrols will get to attend their designated school. Dr. Lila Fahlman School has an open attendance boundary, which means that, if there’s still room at the school once students from the primary attendance area are accepted, students from outside the attendance area will be chosen by random selection.

The school will carefully manage enrolment to make sure there’s room for new students who move into the school’s attendance area, and we hope this will minimize the need to change the attendance area in the future.

For questions about the attendance area decision, contact the Planning department at 780-429-8539.
