DONALD R. GETTY
The new school in Chappelle will be named after Donald R. Getty, a former quarterback with the Edmonton Eskimos and MLA who was elected as Alberta’s 11th premier in 1985. Getty steered the province through a time of collapsing oil prices and worked to establish Alberta’s Heritage Savings Trust Fund, which produces income to support government departments such as health, education and infrastructure. The Board of Trustees approved this school name at a public board meeting on June 21, 2016. Learn more about Donald R. Getty.

We’re collecting your feedback and will use it to inform our decision in the fall. Here are some of the themes we’re noticing in the feedback we’ve received so far:
We’re hearing people would like the primary attendance area to include all of Chappelle, with communities to the north (Graydon Hill, Hays Ridge and Paisley) excluded or limited to secondary attendance area.
People are talking about the potential for increased traffic, as cars and busses drive north from Chappelle East to take students to Duggan and others head south from Graydon Hill, Hays Ridge and Paisley to bring students to the school in Chappelle.
Respondents have said they like that the proposed options will manage enrolment growth and make sure the school isn’t overcapacity just a few years after opening.
