School-Within-A-School

HOW THE MODEL WORKS

When students and staff are welcomed at their host school, they will have:

  • their own space for classes just like they would at their own school building
  • opportunities to work with their principal and teachers
  • opportunities to socialize with friends and make new ones

SPACE FOR STUDENTS

There’s plenty of classroom space at Michael Phair School to host Shauna May Seneca students and staff while their school building is under construction. Both schools will:

  • open with fewer students than the schools can hold to make sure they don’t fill up too quickly while the communities are still growing
  • have closed boundaries, meaning only students from primary attendance areas can attend

Kim Hung School classrooms will be on the main floor and Michael Phair School classrooms will be on the second floor. Both schools will share common spaces, such as the art room, drama room, music room, gymnasium, library and learning commons. There will be opportunities for collaboration and buddy classes between the two schools.

SCHOOL SCHEDULE

Start times, recess, lunch and end times will be different for the two schools to help mitigate student and vehicle traffic in and around the school.

PICK UP AND DROP OFF AREAS

There will be pick up and drop off lanes at the school. These are drive-through lanes to prevent traffic congestion, and parking in these lanes is not allowed. Visitor parking stalls will be available.

SCHOOL EVENTS

Our schools are looking forward to working together to plan special school events, like assemblies and concerts, that all students can participate in.

MOVING TO KIM HUNG SCHOOL

Furniture for Kim Hung School will be moved out over the winter break and won’t disrupt classroom time. All schedules, classes and routines will be the same when classes resume at the new Kim Hung School building on January 8, 2018.
