AL HAMILTON SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS
VALUE: $2000 per year for up to four years of post-secondary education

CONDITIONS:These scholarships, sponsored by The Edmonton Oilers Alumni Association, in conjunction with the NHL Alumni, offer young student athletes, attending Edmonton Catholic or Edmonton Public Schools, the opportunity to pursue their athletic goals, and through post-secondary education, propel them towards their ultimate success. Each high school may nominate one male and one female grade twelve student athlete. The selection will be based on individuals who show leadership qualities, athletic and academic excellence. Financial need will also be considered. Additionally, students must be involved in a sport and plan on perusing that sport within the program at a College or University. Students must complete the information in the form and one of his/her coaches and/or instructors must write a brief letter highlighting qualities of the candidate. Any additional letters of recommendation are welcome.

GRANT MACEWAN YOUNG WRITER'S SCHOLARSHIP

CONDITIONS: The purpose of this award is to honour the life and contributions of the late Dr. Grant MacEwan. Dr. MacEwan wrote more than fifty books on subjects including nature, folklore, agriculture, politics, environment, literature, history and the people of Alberta. Applicants must create a literary work between 1,000 and 5,000 words in length in English or French, which reflects Alberta and/or one of Dr. MacEwan's many interests. Essays or stories should not be biographical overviews of Dr. MacEwan's life but should be creative pieces inspired by Dr. MacEwan's life, legacy and interests. An applicant must be a resident of Alberta and be between 16 and 25 years of age as of December 31 of the year of application. Applicants must prove enrolment in an acceptable program of study or mentorship. If a winning applicant is not enrolled at the time of application, funds will be held on their behalf for no more than three years. If under 18 years of age, a parent and/or guardian must co-sign the application. Any work submitted must be original and written solely by the applicant. Four copies of all material must be submitted in hard copy: the completed application form, the literary work on white, 8 ½ x 11 paper, single-sided, double-spaced, in 12-pt. type, a personal letter responding to specific questions, and one letter of reference.

ROSE MARGARET KING MERIT AWARDS

CONDITIONS: The Rose Margaret King Merit Awards support the education of youth and mature students living in Edmonton. The award, in the form of a bursary, can be used to cover tuition, tools and books and mandatory school fees. Applicants must be permanent residents/citizens of Canada; be an Edmonton resident or a returning student who received most of his/her primary/secondary education in Edmonton; demonstrate financial need; and have applied to or are accepted into a training program and/or a program of study offered by a qualified post-secondary institution in Alberta. YOUTH FORMERLY IN CARE BURSARY

CONDITIONS: This bursary was established to assist those who have been under the care of Alberta Children's Services and no longer qualify for support to continue their education. The daughters of Marshall Hamar created this award in memory of their father who, by his example and personal values, inspired his family to commit to community service and education. Applicants must be permanent residents/citizens of Canada; be an Edmonton or Northern Alberta resident; have spent a minimum of 2 years under the care and/or guardianship of Children's Services in Alberta and must have left care at age 16 or older; be 25 or younger at the time of application; demonstrate financial need; and have qualified for full-time post-secondary entrance to the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT), Grant MacEwan College, or the University of Alberta in Edmonton. The bursary can be used to cover tuition costs, books, tools and in some cases a portion of living expenses.
