:: Board of Trustees - Ward E
Heather MacKenzie October 2010 to October 2013
Before seeking office as a school Trustee, Heather MacKenzie worked in the non-profit and community services sector. Heather is a graduate of the Edmonton Public School system and holds degrees in sociology and history, as well as a master's degree in international development. She is a committed social and environmental justice advocate and has worked and volunteered extensively for community development organizations such as Big Brothers Big Sisters and Engineers Without Borders. Since 2004, Heather has managed a fundraising initiative to support a community run school for orphans and vulnerable children in Zambia. This work has deepened her resolve to uphold a strong public education system in Edmonton. Heather views public schools as focal points for community development and believes in the importance of high quality public education for all. As a new Trustee, Heather has a desire to increase the diversity of voices heard on and by the Board.
"Trustees excel when they are responsive to the ideas and concerns of their constituents."
