Alberta Health Services (AHS), has declared a measles outbreak in the Calgary, Central and Edmonton Zones of AHS.

2014 Great Kids Awards
Three district students received 2014 Great Kids Awards from Human Services Minister Manmeet Bhullar on Sunday afternoon. Sixteen young people from across the Province were selected from over 300 nominations. In fact, 33 of those students nominated are from Edmonton Public Schools.

Invention Convention 2014
More than 100 students presented their imaginative solutions to real-life problems at the 7th annual Invention Convention today at the Centre for Edmonton. The students were from Michael Strembitsky, Allendale, Dan Knott, Victoria and Westlawn schools.

Board Approves School Construction/Modernization Priorities in District’s 2015-18 Three-Year Capital Plan
The Edmonton Public School Board approved the District’s capital priorities for modernization and new school construction for the coming three years at its April 22 Board meeting. The Three-Year Capital Plan and Ten-Year Facilities Plan will now be forwarded to Alberta Education for consideration.

Supporting a Mature Community With a Replacement School
On January 21, 2014, the Province announced the District will be receiving a replacement school in a mature community. To qualify for this unique opportunity, we will be combining three older schools and replacing them with a new or modernized school. The potential location of the replacement school must be determined by the end of June 2014.

Archives and Museum Launches “Shake It Up” Fundraising Campaign
The official “Shake It Up” fundraising campaign kick-off took place inside the restored legislative chambers at the historic McKay Avenue School, home to Edmonton Public Schools Archives and Museum yesterday. Cedar shake shingles are being sold for $25 each with all donations going directly to repair the roof of the building and preserve a piece of Edmonton Public Schools’ history.

2014 Excellence in Teaching Awards Semi-Finalists
Congratulations to all 37 district staff who were selected by Alberta Education as 2014 Excellence in Teaching Awards semi-finalists. These teachers are among 113 Alberta-wide semi-finalists. Trustees will honour the district semi-finalists at a board event on May 1.
