News item: National Day for Truth and Reconciliation added to calendar

Earlier this month, the Government of Canada proclaimed September 30 as the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation to recognize the tragic legacy of residential schools in Canada.

At the June 22, 2021 public meeting, the Board of Trustees adjusted the 2021-22 school year calendar, adding the new national holiday on Thursday, September 30, 2021 as a board-declared holiday. Additionally, the professional development day scheduled for Monday, September 27 was shifted to Friday, October 1 to keep the non-instructional days together and minimize disruption to families.

The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation is a time for Canadians to learn and acknowledge the truth of residential schools and honour the survivors and children who died.
