This fall, Kindergarten to Grade 6 students will learn new provincial curriculum in the following subjects and grades:

  • Physical Education and Wellness (K–6)
  • English Language Arts and Literature (K–3 only)
  • Mathematics (K–3 only)

Some classrooms will also take part in piloting draft curriculum in the following subjects:

What we are doing to prepare

The Division began preparing for the introduction of a new provincial curriculum last school year. Our focus is on supporting student learning, and this means preparing school staff.

Throughout the spring and summer, teachers took part in professional learning, which will continue to be offered through this school year. School staff also have access to updated teaching and learning resources to support the new curriculum.

More information

The Government of Alberta determines the new curriculum content and timelines for implementation. Families are encouraged to visit Alberta Education’s curriculum page to learn more about what is being implemented in the upcoming school year and in future years.

The full provincial curriculum and parent resources are available on Alberta Education’s New LearnAlberta site.
