May is Asian Heritage Month

Each May the Division marks Asian Heritage Month by celebrating the incredible contributions that Asian Canadians make to our schools, city and province.

We also provide schools with resources to support conversations with students about Asian history, culture and the issue of anti-Asian racism.

Honouring Asian voices

Last year, families, students and staff at Edmonton Public Schools contributed to Listen, Hear, Learn: Honouring Asian Voices.

From the languages they speak to their significant contributions to our communities, the participants in this video shine a light on Asian culture and history. They also share deeply personal stories that highlight why anti-racism education continues to be a priority for our Division.

Land Acknowledgment

We acknowledge that we are on Treaty 6 territory, a traditional meeting grounds, gathering place, and travelling route to the Cree, Saulteaux, Blackfoot, Métis, Dene and Nakota Sioux. We acknowledge all the many First Nations, Métis, and Inuit whose footsteps have marked these lands for centuries.
