News item: Update on potential teacher labour action

Today, the Alberta Teachers’ Association (ATA) has indicated that unless a settlement is reached, they will commence strike action on October 6, 2025. The ATA has indicated they intend to serve official notice on September 12.

What does this mean for families?

We will have more information to share with families in the coming weeks.

Should strike action commence, classes, field trips and extracurricular activities for all students will be paused.

You are encouraged to start making alternate arrangements for your children, should teachers go on strike.

Again, more information will be shared with families as we get closer to October 6.

Bargaining status

As a reminder about the central bargaining process for teachers in Alberta: it is conducted at a provincial level between the Teachers’ Employer Bargaining Association (TEBA), which represents school boards and the Government of Alberta, and the Alberta Teachers’ Association. Edmonton Public Schools is not directly involved in negotiations on central matters, such as teacher salaries.

More information

As more information becomes available, it will be shared with families.
