About Sakaw School

At Sakaw School, we provide the opportunity for all students to achieve excellence, develop a strong sense of self-worth and develop good work habits, attitudes and social skills. Our school provides the regular Kindergarten to Grade 6 program. We are also a Division site for Opportunities, a program for students with mild cognitive delays, and Interactions, a program for students diagnosed with Autism. We are an APPLE school which includes targeted plans for active living, healthy eating and promoting positive mental health.

Sakaw School borders a large park that has a number of baseball and soccer fields, with a community garden and playground close by.

SCHOOL PHILOSOPHY

We believe:

  • In providing a safe, caring environment that is positive and stimulating for students, parents, community members and staff
  • In helping students become responsible and co-operative citizens who are prepared to lead productive lives with people of all races, religions and nationalities
  • In giving all students the opportunity to achieve to their level of ability through excellent instruction, quality resources and collaboration with the community

SCHOOL NAME

Sakaw (Sakâw) means “it is a wooded area” in Cree.
