Elder Dr. Francis Whiskeyjack School in the Meadows will open in September 2024. The school will offer Grades 10 and 11 in 2024–25, and add Grade 12 in 2025–26.
For the 2024–25 school year, we are full in planned classes in:
*The AP program is only available for Grade 10 students in 2024–25.
We will no longer accept enrolment requests for the AP program. For the regular program, we will now only accept resident students in Grades 10 and 11 whose parent(s)/legal guardian(s) have newly moved into the school’s attendance area.
Non-resident students can enrol in another Division school with space in planned classes.

Superintendent Darrel Robertson approved the attendance area for Elder Dr. Francis Whiskeyjack School in fall 2023.

Elder Dr. Francis Whiskeyjack School is a Level 1 school on the Growth Control Model and will have an open boundary. This means:
For the 2024–25 school year, Elder Dr. Francis Whiskeyjack School will open with Grades 10 and 11 only. The school will offer Grades 10–12 for the 2025–26 school year.
Edmonton Transit Service (ETS) is the preferred transportation method for high school students. However, if ETS is not available, eligible students attending their designated school may be able to apply for yellow bus service.
Check ETS schedules in the summer of 2024, when ETS trip plans are typically updated for service in September.

The new high school in the Meadows area will be named after Elder Dr. Francis Whiskeyjack. He is a pillar in the community and works with numerous community organizations, including Edmonton Public Schools, as a trusted Elder and cultural advisor.
He is committed to sharing traditional knowledge and teachings, and promoting awareness and understanding of Indigenous ways of knowing, being and doing. His sincere commitment to advocate on behalf of Indigenous people has earned him immense respect from the Edmonton community.
The Board of Trustees approved this school name at a public board meeting on September 12, 2023.
